Practice-led PhD Research

Rachel is in the first year of a practice-led PhD at Northumbria University entitled 'Painting in the Digital Age'. This research project investigates the impact and influence of digital media on contemporary painting practices. Exhibitions, projects and events associated with this research are listed below. 16th-17th May 2012 Northumbria University Research Conference, Newcastle upon Tyne.
 
20th February-1st March 2012. MA and Other Postgraduates, Atkinson Gallery, Somerset. The postgraduate students in this exhibition were selected from art schools throughout the country.

17th-26th February 2012. Persona, Gallery 3, Art's Complex, Edinburgh. This solo exhibition of Rachel's work looks at the influence of  Facebook on contemporary portrait painting.


11th-27th February 2012 The Figure Now, Brooklyn Artists Gym, NY. “The Figure Now” will explore contemporary interpretations of the figure in space. The artwork in this exhibition will show how artists describe the human form within the context of current media, and society today.

25th January 2012 Research presentation by Rachel Sharp, Painting in the Digital Age: A Discussion of the Influence and Impact of Digital Media on Contemporary Painting, Northumbria University and University of Sunderland Fine Art Research event at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle upon Tyne.
